What is oculoplastics?
Oculoplastic is plastic surgery around the lids and comprises a vast subject area requiring expertise in decision making in order to achieve optimal results. As can be appreciated the specialty is vast, from the external eye surface through to the orbit.
Blepharoplasty: aesthetics and functionality
At Clinica Guirao we specialise specifically in eyelids and the management of watery eyes, both of which are causes of distressing morbidity and impact on quality of life. Blepharoplasties represents a life changing surgery, both from a cosmetic and a functional perspective. The idea is to remove the excess skin that accumulates and overhangs on either the upper or lower lid, called dermatochalasis. In order to effectively achieve this, we use a range of surgical techniques to ensure that the surgeries induce minimal scarring.
Ptosis: droopy eyelid
Dermatochalasis needs to be carefully distinguished with clinical examination from ptosis, which is essentially a dropped eyelid. The causes of ptosis and the treatment of ptosis is varied as a consequence a complete and comprehensive assessment is required in order to reach the correct diagnosis and surgical plan, occasionally augmented with imaging. The surgical approaches are varied depending on cause, extent of dropping and age of the patient.
